Designing User-Centered Tools for Data Reporting
The Office of Population Affairs’ (OPA) Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP) Program uses performance measures to demonstrate whether grant projects are making sufficient progress toward their stated missions and are serving the public interest.
Challenge
OPA’s TPP team needed a way to effectively communicate data entry how-to’s to project grantees and research findings to key partners.
Solution
We developed accessible, user-focused communication and training materials that included video demonstrations, user guides, and data visualizations to help users successfully navigate systems and understand processes while effectively communicating outcomes data to key partners.
Results
OPA now offers a more seamless and engaging user experience by making complex information easier to understand, improving access to important resources, and providing actionable data to key partners.
Data Visualization for Research Reports
To help OPA showcase outcomes, we collaborated with researchers on data reports highlighting results and findings from the 367 grantees who received funding through the TPP program. We developed charts and data visualizations while adhering to OPA’s brand guidelines. Additionally, we provided copy editing and 508 remediation. The resulting reports highlight research findings and program outcomes while keeping readers engaged in a concise and accessible format.
How-to Videos
To support onboarding and training for TPP grantees, we developed and delivered a series of technical how-to videos to guide grantees through entering program data into the OAHPMDS system. The videos introduce TPP grantees to the data entry processes and the proper steps to ensure all performance data is submitted successfully.
User Guide
The OAHPMDS user guide provides users with step-by-step instructions for entering data into the online system. We provided copy editing services to ensure content consistency, designed the content for easy user comprehension, and remediated the guide so it is accessible to all and adheres to Section 508 requirements.
