Child Maltreatment Data

Our child welfare experts help programs collect, analyze, and use data on child abuse and neglect. We apply this expertise to support high-quality reporting, respond to data requests, and advance research on child maltreatment. These efforts help agencies move beyond reporting requirements by using data to identify maltreatment trends, understand performance, and inform program decisions.

Child Welfare Information Systems

Our subsidiary, WRMA, was founded to provide automated solutions for child welfare agencies. Our child welfare experts bridge practice and technology by translating policy, business processes, and user needs into system requirements and implementation strategies. We help states modernize SACWIS and CCWIS environments and connect intake, investigation, and case management systems so staff have the information they need to support children and families.

Child Welfare Systems Research and Evaluation

Our researchers combine rigorous methods with a deep understanding of child welfare programs and administrative data. We design and carry out studies and evaluations to help partners answer questions and strengthen the evidence base. This work supports continuous quality improvement, Child and Family Services Reviews, and system improvement planning, helping agencies use evidence to improve services and outcomes for children and families.

Client Stories

Improving National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System

The National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS) is the primary source for national statistics about child maltreatment. NCANDS collects, validates, and analyzes data from all 50 states, providing critical insights into child abuse and neglect trends. Since 1988, we have supported the Administration on Children, Youth, and Families on sequential contracts to design, implement, and maintain this national data collection and reporting system and provide technical assistance to the states to ensure legislative compliance.

Modernizing the Child Welfare Services System in California

We partnered with the California Department of Social Services to maintain and enhance the state’s Child Welfare Services/Case Management System (CWS/CMS). Through system enhancements, technical assistance, and child welfare expertise, we help strengthen case management, improve data and reporting, and support evolving policy and operational needs. Our work connects technology, data, and child welfare practice to help state and county teams deliver effective services for children and families.
