What’s something people might not realize about what you do?

One thing people may not realize about being a CEO is that much of the role happens behind the scenes. Even after decades of leadership experience, there is a constant need to evaluate challenges, talk through the best path forward, and step in when gaps or issues arise. Much of that work takes place through ongoing discussions with a small circle of trusted leaders, balancing both strategic decisions and immediate operational needs. Ironically, when things are running smoothly, it can appear quiet from the outside, while in reality a significant amount of thought, judgment, and problem-solving is happening behind the scenes to help keep the organization focused, aligned, and moving in the right direction.

How did you get started in this field?

My path into the field was anything but traditional. After studying psychology in college, I spent time playing piano and singing in a band before becoming a teacher at an experimental school where I focused on math and creative writing instruction. Although I was being groomed for a principal role, I ultimately decided to pursue a different path and joined General Electric in a position that trained me in computer programming (Assembler!).

While I entered through the technical side of the industry, I quickly discovered I was drawn more to program management, mentoring staff, and supporting public sector initiatives. Along the way, I met Bob Cordes (pictured at the top of this story), beginning a decades-long partnership built on trust, complementary strengths, and a shared passion for building organizations and supporting public sector missions. In 2000, me, Bob, and former State Department IRM leader Ken Loff founded PRO-telligent, LLC, growing the company into a highly successful federal contractor supporting State Department initiatives around the world and a variety of other federal programs. After selling the company in 2011, Bob and I planned to focus on health and human services initiatives and acquired WRMA, Inc., creating TriMetrix, Inc. as the parent company to support WRMA’s continued growth and expansion. Over time, we also established Trio Tech Global as a division within TriMetrix to expand into markets beyond WRMA’s core federal human services focus.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time outdoors, especially walking through the wooded parks and paths along the Potomac River in Old Town Alexandria. During the warmer months, I also enjoy spending time at the beach, particularly Virginia Beach, which holds special meaning for me as the place where my parents met during their spring breaks and later married. During the winter, I enjoy reading, going to movies and live shows, and staying active with daily trips to the gym. I’m also continuing to advance my French reading and conversational speaking skills.
