Developing and sustaining Registered Apprenticeship (RA) programs in early childhood education (ECE) is both impactful and complex. Providers are navigating workforce shortages, educator well-being, regulatory requirements, funding challenges, and the day-to-day realities of delivering high-quality care. While RA programs are a proven workforce solution, launching and maintaining a successful program requires thoughtful planning and strategic decision-making.
To support this work, our Early Childhood Workforce Connector (ECWC) team developed the Guide to Early Childhood Education Registered Apprenticeship Program Development. This resource walks readers through key considerations for designing and implementing an RA program, including organizational readiness, partnership development, program models, and training approaches. The guide helps sponsors and partners build a customized program that aligns with their mission, workforce needs, and long-term goals.
The ECWC team will also host a webinar highlighting key components of the guide. Participants will learn practical strategies for developing and strengthening ECE apprenticeship programs and hear lessons learned from a partner currently using the guide, along with ECWC technical assistance, to build their program.
