WCAG 2.1 and Testing for Digital Accessibility

A free online learning module

Editor’s note: Not only is making your content accessible the right thing to do, it’s also the law in many cases in the United States. For example, federal agencies are required to make their digital content accessible under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. To support accessibility efforts, the Learning and Resource Center creates content related to accessibility in digital documents, websites, webinars, e-learning, and more. This online module provides an interactive, accessible way to start learning about accessibility.

Course Description

This free course provides an overview of accessibility practices. It focuses on how to make digital content and websites accessible to individuals with disabilities. The course is designed to help learners understand the importance of accessibility and provide practical guidance on how to implement accessibility standards.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Define accessibility and its importance in web and application development.
Identify key standards related to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
Recognize the role of screen readers in promoting accessibility for users with visual impairments.
Understand the tools needed to test digital content and the differences between automated and manual testing.
Know how to get started.

After completing all sections, you’ll complete a brief knowledge check to assess your understanding.
